Go Caving

Caves ignite the curiosity of kids and offer a fun alternative to things to do outside during the summer. Since each cave is unique, explore what lies underground in caves close to Austin and choose your favorite! When exploring in the summer or winter months, an added bonus is the cool air, typically between 64 and 68 degrees year round.

Cascade Caverns
226 Cascade Caverns Rd., Boerne

Looking for a place to cook down? Head underground to a constant 64 degree cool on a 45-minute to 1-hour tour of this cave, located just three miles outside of Boerne. Discount coupon available here. On-site camping is also available.
Cost: Adult: $14.95, children ages 4 – 11, $9.50

Cave Without a Name
325 Kreutzberg Rd., Boerne

This cave, located 11-miles from Boerne is a cool 66 degrees year-round and features formations of Stalactites, Stalagmites, delicate Soda Straws, Cave Drapery, magnificent Flowstones, Rimstone Dams, and more. On-site camping is available.

Cost: $20 adults; $10 children ages 6-12; free for children under 6. Group, senior, student and military discounts available.

Colorado Bend State Park

In addition to caving, camping, swimming, mountain biking, hiking, and more await you at this beautiful park. An experienced guide will lead you on a speleo-adventure through caves where you crawl, slide, and climb through small spaces and into large chambers. Be prepared to get dirty and maybe even soaked.
Visits to the caves at Colorado Bend State Park are only available with guides and require reservations.

Cost: Park entrance fee is $5 for adults, free for children 12 and under.

Inner Space Cavern

There are three different tour types available including the Adventure Tour, Hidden Passages Tour and the Wild Cave Tour. The Adventure Tour lasts for a little over an hour and departs every 20 to 30 minutes. No reservations are required. The Wild Cave and Hidden Passages Tours are longer and a bit more strenuous.

Kids will also enjoy the mining area and playground on-site.

Cost: Adventure Tour  - $19.95 adults; children ages 4-12 years old; $11.95, 3 and under are free.

Longhorn Cavern State Park

Tours of the Longhorn Cavern are offered daily with several different options including: a 1.5-hour walking tour, 1.5 to 2-hour Wild Cave Tour that takes you through less developed parts, an evening Paranormal Tour that delves into unexplained happenings, the Geology Program that is geared towards eighth graders and up, and a Photography Tour that lasts for 3-hours.

Cost: $16 adults; $15 for ages 13-19, $12 ages 2-12 years old.

Natural Bridge Caverns

There are several tours, operating daily, to choose from at this site but the most popular is the Discovery Tour. This tour will take you through a half-mile of the largest and most spectacular show cavern in Texas, 180 feet below the ground. In addition to exploring the cave, there are mining opportunities, an obstacle course, zip lining, and a maze.

Cost: Adult, $21.99; children ages 3-11, $13.99.

Westcave Preserve

The guided tours on this 75-acre preserve take visitors from an arid savanna through a limestone crevice into a sheltered canyon of lush plant life. At the head of the canyon stands Westcave, with a stunning 40-foot waterfall replenishing the emerald pool below. Friday public tours are also available during the summer months.

Cost: $10 per adult; $5 per child (ages 4-12 years); $25 per family (immediate family only)

Wonder World Park

Explore the Balcones Fault Line Cave at this show cave in addition to enjoy other attractions including an anti-gravity house, the Tejas Observation Center, a train ride, Texas Wildlife Petting Park, and more. 

Cost: Adult, $24.95; 6-12, $16.95; 3-5, $9.50; 65+, $16.95. Military discounts available.
